New on Sports Illustrated: Report: Mountain West Optimistic for October Return

A meeting and subsequent vote is reportedly set to take place Friday.

Mountain West officials are "optimistic" the league will return to play in October. According to Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel, the conference athletic directors reportedly met on Monday to finalize a testing plan. The plan would involve frequent antigen testing.

The Mountain West has reportedly targeted Oct. 24 for its opening day in 2020. Each team would play eight games with a title game slated for December 19th. 

A meeting and subsequent vote is reportedly set to take place Friday. If the Mountain West votes to approve the return to play plan this would make them the second conference to overturn their decision to cancel the 2020 fall season. 

The Big Ten decided to resume their season last week with a start date set for October 24th.
