Hi HN, I’m sharing mochi.js ( https://ift.tt/vuKhBVZ ), a Bun-native, raw-CDP browser automation framework. It's designed to make programmatic browser use more effective by focusing on consistency and measured parity with regular traffic, purely from the JS layer, against stock Chromium. The most common forms of browser automation focus heavily on client-side line by line probes, which are mostly cosmetic. This makes people feel better but it doesn't have much relevance to actual WAF or anti-automation defences. Mochi.js focuses on what actually matters, allowing you to get past captchas, WAF's and most defence mechanisms. In fact, in some cases it actually outperforms chromium forks simply by virtue of not having to lie. The foundation is built on a probe manifest based on analyzing several WAF's and trying to cover most of the ground that matters, and from there building upwards while ensuring every decision is backed by data. Solves turnstile/interstitial automatically, single digit fpjs suspect score, very good client-side results, though browserscan and a few others are known limitations that are fundamentally conflicting with what WAF's probe for. I'll be here if anyone wants to discuss the details, check out the docs and github. It's completely free and open source, MIT, strictly no relationship to any proprietary products whatsoever. No affiliation to patched chromium forks, or SaaS. But I also want to talk about why I built this, because the current paradigm of "bot detection" is fundamentally broken. Traditionally they would probably try to label my repository a malicious tool, or at best, a grey hat one. Let's take Turnstile for example, If you attach a debugger to see what data they are extracting from your hardware, their script intentionally self-destructs. When they try to extract your data—acting as a guest on your silicon, using your electricity, without asking, the industry calls it "Security." But if you write a script to control exactly what data your own hardware emits, refusing to provide the data they have no right to ask for, you are suddenly labeled a "Malicious Actor" engaged in "Bot Evasion." I find it absurd we let ourselves put up with this, and the stance of the bot-evasion community only makes them feel more able to take a higher moral ground. I have built a library that respects my hardware's reality. If that breaks your security model, that's because your security model relies on trespassing and secrecy. I stopped apologizing. Who's next? Mochi is the exact opposite of WAF opacity. It is a glass box. It is MIT-licensed. The entire DAG, fingerprint manifest schema, harvesting process, is documented. We even commit our live benchmarks to the public record (mochi on a Linux datacenter IP scored a suspect_score: 8 and bot: not_detected against FingerprintJS Pro v4). We don't even lie unnecessarily. We default to host-OS matching. If you run mochi on a Linux server, it uses privacy-sensible fingerprints for Linux, not Windows, because Linux is a real-user signal. It proves that WAFs aren't actually blocking what most people think they are, which begs the question of what they are really doing in that obfuscated payload. The legitimacy argument is exactly how they captured the narrative. And nobody challenged it because the people on the other side were too busy acting like they were doing something wrong. Is this a conspiracy theory? For sure, but only because they allow it to be. Try make a conspiracy theory about the sticky riceball.

A few weeks ago, I got my first output with a simple hello world assembly program. Since then I have been working tirelessly to get DOOM to run. I needed to figure out how to run C programs first, and came across newlib, which allows the underlying environment to implement the syscall stubs one by one until the programs run. I have also added ELF loading, but currently only a single `PT_LOAD` segment is supported. To port DOOM, I used doomgeneric, which was quite convenient to get working once the required stubs were in place. That kept the ELF loader code simple. Inputs are written to the queue by rvcore which are then intercepted by DOOM running inside it.

I’m not trying to brag, I am just genuinely confused. I got laid off recently and I had a new job within a week because I constantly get contacted by recruiters both through LinkedIn and directly by email. I’ve never sent an application to anyone and I’ve had dozens of interviews in the past year while I was looking for a new job before getting laid off. I would have had a new one earlier except I was aiming for fully remote and a big raise, and I failed their correspondingly difficult evaluations. Never got ghosted, never had to deal with AI, never had to fill out an application. I took a local, in office offer that I would have ignored if I were still employed. Currently I’m waiting for a final decision from another fully remote company and I’m in midstage with 2 more. I’m not a super genius engineer, and I don’t have any fancy companies on my resume. How unusual is this experience?

We spent a year building and maintaining browser automations for EHR and payer portal integrations at our healthcare startup. Building these automations and debugging failed ones was incredibly time-consuming. There’s lots of tools that use runtime AI like Browseruse and Stagehand which we tried, but (1) they’re reliant on custom DOM parsing that's unreliable on older and complicated websites (including all of healthcare). Using a website’s internal network calls is faster and more reliable when possible. (2) They can be expensive since they rely on lots of AI calls and for workflows with complicated logic you can’t always rely on caching actions to make sure it will work. (3) They’re at runtime so it’s not interpretable what the agent is going to do. You kind of hope you prompted it correctly to do the right thing, but legacy workflows are often unintuitive and inconsistent across sites so you can’t trust an agent to just figure it out at runtime. (4) They don’t really help you generate new automations or help you debug automation failures. We wanted a way to reliably generate and maintain browser automations in messy, high-stakes environments, without relying on fragile runtime agents. Libretto is different because instead of runtime agents it uses “development-time AI”: scripts are generated ahead of time as actual code you can read and control, not opaque agent behavior at runtime. Instead of a black box, you own the code and can inspect, modify, version, and debug everything. Rather than relying on runtime DOM parsing, Libretto takes a hybrid approach combining Playwright UI automation with direct network/API requests within the browser session for better reliability and bot detection evasion. It records manual user actions to help agents generate and update scripts, supports step-through debugging, has an optional read-only mode to prevent agents from accidentally submitting or modifying data, and generates code that follows all the abstractions and conventions you have already in your coding repo. Hey HN! We posted Rivet Actors here previously [1] as an open-source alternative to Cloudflare Durable Objects. Today we've released SQLite storage for actors (Apache 2.0). Every actor gets its own SQLite database. This means you can have millions of independent databases: one for each agent, tenant, user, or document. Useful for: - AI agents: per-agent DB for message history, state, embeddings - Multi-tenant SaaS: real per-tenant isolation, no RLS hacks - Collaborative documents: each document gets its own database with built-in multiplayer - Per-user databases: isolated, scales horizontally, runs at the edge The idea of splitting data per entity isn't new: Cassandra and DynamoDB use partition keys to scale horizontally, but you're stuck with rigid schemas ("single-table design" [3]), limited queries, and painful migrations. SQLite per entity gives you the same scalability without those tradeoffs [2]. How this compares: - Cloudflare Durable Objects & Agents: most similar to Rivet Actors with colocated SQLite and compute, but closed-source and vendor-locked - Turso Cloud: Great platform, but closed-source + diff use case. Clients query over the network, so reads are slow or stale. Rivet's single-writer actor model keeps reads local and fresh. - D1, Turso (the DB), Litestream, rqlite, LiteFS: great tools for running a single SQLite database with replication. Rivet is for running lots of isolated databases. Under the hood, SQLite runs in-process with each actor. A custom VFS persists writes to HA storage (FoundationDB or Postgres). Rivet Actors also provide realtime (WebSockets), React integration (useActor), horizontal scalability, and actors that sleep when idle. Rowboat is an open-source, local-first app that turns your work into a living knowledge graph (stored as plain Markdown with backlinks) and uses it to accomplish tasks on your computer. As new conversations happen (including voice memos), related notes update automatically. If a deadline changes in a standup, it links back to the original commitment and updates it. (2) A local assistant: On top of that graph, Rowboat includes an agent with local shell access and MCP support, so it can use your existing context to actually do work on your machine. It can act on demand or run scheduled background tasks. Example: “Prep me for my meeting with John and create a short voice brief.” It pulls relevant context from your graph and can generate an audio note via an MCP tool like ElevenLabs. Why not just search transcripts? Passing gigabytes of email, docs, and calls directly to an AI agent is slow and lossy. And search only answers the questions you think to ask. A system that accumulates context over time can track decisions, commitments, and relationships across conversations, and surface patterns you didn't know to look for. Rowboat is Apache-2.0 licensed, works with any LLM (including local ones), and stores all data locally as Markdown you can read, edit, or delete at any time.
